The Roman Forum Nativity

This unique setting is reminiscent of the Italian nativity (presepio) tradition featuring stylized Roman architecture that was evident throughout the Holy Land.

This distinctive nativity is hand crafted entirely of wood, which was used in both the architecture as well as the highly detailed rocks and pavers. Three impressive hand marbled columns with a portico and pediment, along with a marbleized obelisk, remind us of the Roman influence in Judea 2000 years ago.  A beautiful wood floor is installed beneath the portico area.  A warm glow emanates from the grotto's two openings.

The Holy Family is nestled in the walls of the structure, with adoring kings, shepherds, herders, families and sheep, camels, goats and even a traditional elephant attending.  These elegant figures were created in the Val Gardena area of the Italian Alps in the worshops of the Ulrich Perathoner family of craftsmen.  They are crafted in alpine maple wood, carved and hand painted with soft glowing oil colors.

Lighting for the nativity, discretely placed for a strong dramatic effect, is created by LED lights that are dimmable from a control panel at the back of the piece.

The nativity on a solid poplar base measures 20 deep x 28 wide x 26 high, including the natural manzanita wood tree.  The Joseph figure is approximately 4.75" high.  White glove delivery service within the Philadelphia area is included. Signed by the artists.
